Happy Sunday. Today, I have a new recipe and a few ideas to inspire your New Year’s Eve meal.
Weekend Update
I’ll keep the weekend update short to get us into the recipes FAST! I’m getting back into the swing of things after Christmas travel. I usually make the bulk of the Christmas Eve dinner, and we try to go for a Feast of Seven Fishes, though we often don’t quite hit seven; this year, we did, thanks to my brother-in-law, who made delicious clams! I made a lobster and shrimp gnocchi (which I think I’ll test again for a recipe; it was a BIG hit!). I also made my crab balls with remoulade, baked cod with macadamia nut gremolata, and smoked trout dip. We also had scallops and the clams. It was several hours of cooking, but so worth it!
This weekend, we went to Neko Nook in Gaithersburg, and I tried a Japanese sando for the first time! The coffee was diabolically bad, so skip the coffee if you decide to go. But the strawberry sando and tamago sando were both delicious!
Today, I decided to make a turkey because I was craving it for some reason. I’m going to follow my dry-brine turkey recipe and skip the glaze this time. I’m also making my very favorite dinner roll recipe (I’ll share the recipe next week) along with my favorite basic mashed potatoes, cranberries, and some roasted veggies like Brussels sprouts, maybe.
Let’s get into the recipes!
NEW RECIPE
Coq au Vin
I love, love, love coq au vin, and after several iterations, I am happy to share my version with you. I add parsnips, carrots, pearl onions, and mushrooms to create a hearty dish perfect for a cold night.
READER FAVE
Creamy Garlic Chicken with Mushrooms
Thank you so much for this wonderful comment, Katy! I’m so thrilled you enjoyed this dish!
NYE MEALS
Filet Mignon with Red Wine Mushroom Sauce
Since I’m in a red wine mood, I will make a simple filet mignon dinner this year! It’s one of my favorite fancy meals!
London Broil
Don’t feel like you need to break the bank for a fancy NYE meal! London broil–made with a more budget-friendly cut like top sirloin–can make for a stunning main dish, especially when you reverse-sear it!
Homemade Lobster Ravioli
Want to try your hand at homemade ravioli? I have three versions to share with you! The first is lobster ravioli served in a stunning saffron sauce.
Homemade Mushroom Ravioli
For a vegetarian NYE, try this homemade mushroom ravioli instead!
Homemade Crab Ravioli
Or try my OG crab ravioli! This one has been a hit on the site for years!
Easy Baked Crab Balls
Crab balls are always a good choice for a fancy dinner, and I’m so happy you enjoyed them, Cindy!!
Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs
What better way to bid farewell to 2024 than with a stick-to-your-ribs comfort meal like short ribs?! YUM.
I think that’s it for today! I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe, celebratory New Year’s Eve! If you ring in the new year with one of my recipes, please drop me a comment to let me know how it turns out. I’d love to be included in your New Year’s Eve spread! :) HAPPY NEW YEAR, and I’ll see you in 2025!!!! 💖💖 BYEEEEEEE!
