Happy Monday! Lately, I’ve been feeling a little burnt out. Between working full-time, running a shop, writing a cookbook, and writing and photographing—on average—4+ new recipes a week, I’m just a little tired.
Being tired, burnt out, and exhausted results in feeling a little uninspired, maybe even disenchanted. Even though I love nothing more than sharing delicious recipes, I’ve found that I’m not doing as much personal or creative food exploration as I’d like.
Last week, I made scones for the first time. It hit me just how nice it was to make someone else’s recipe without needing it to turn out perfect or needing to jot down every step to have a polished recipe to share later. I tried something new without any pressure whatsoever.
So, I made scones again this weekend, except I tried a new recipe. It occurred to me again just how wonderful this experience was, and I actually opted not even to bother developing a new recipe for my site that day. Instead, I started a feature: Sunday Scones.
This purpose? It’s a gift to myself–a weekly reprieve from developing polished, picture-perfect content–so I can focus on learning and exploring new techniques, new recipes, or just an opportunity to try something different.
I still want to include you all in the process, whether it’s successful or a complete failure.
You might be asking yourself: is it really just gonna be scones every Sunday? No! You can think of Sunday Scones as being synonymous with Sunday Experimentation, Sunday Fun, Sunday No-Pressure Cooking.
I’ve already gotten tons of ideas for next week’s feature—including pierogies, homemade pasta, donuts—and I’d love to hear your suggestions too!
This week’s Sunday Scones is indeed about scones, though. I compared two scone recipes, one from The Kitchn and one from King Arthur Baking. I also tried my hand at a take on a McMuffin, too! You can read the whole post to see how the two recipes stacked up against each other.
After you read it, drop a comment on the post. What’s something you’d love to see me try cooking? Have you been intimidated by a recipe or technique and want me to try it out first? I got you!!
That’s all for this week. I hope you enjoy the more free-form experience on my site, and I hope you’ll stick around for more Sunday Scones!
P.S. I have some new recipes up on the site, too, like this chicken and chickpea soup. It was awesome. You’ll love it.
This looks delicious and perfect for winter!
